One of the refreshing activities you can do in the UAE during a weekend is to go on a road trip to Al Ain City, the greenest part of the Emirates. Al Ain City is also known as “The Garden City” and is the 2nd largest city of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This is a welcome break from the modern cityscape especially when you’ve been working on a desk and you won’t escape the tall buildings for a change.
This is a great way to spend your day off from work if you want to see the Middle East beyond the regular desert safari trip or Dubai’s skyscrapers.
Al Ain Zoo is another spot which will make you go wow. The visitor will get to witness animals including Puma, Lion, Meerkat, Oryx, Gazelle, Flamingo, Ostrich etc. in there. It would take approximately 2 hours for you to tour the whole zoo, but sometimes it can be more. It’s a fun experience and great if you bring kids for them to see wild animals up close.
Jebel” is Arabic for “mountain”. Jebel Hafeet is a popular place stop and the visitor can get a good view of Al Ain City from the mountain. Temperature also drops from 25 degrees to 19 degrees when you reach the top, depending on the season.
With an elevation of 1250m, it’s the highest mountain in the UAE. The way up is very smooth and beautiful. There are barbeque areas along the way, so if you want to picnic with your family or friends, this is a great escape from everyday stress. At the very top, there isn’t anything really worth seeing besides the breath-taking views. There are a small restaurant and a big car parking. The mountain itself is very dry and lifeless, but the trip to the top and the views make it a definite must.
This city tour of Al Ain is a great excursion especially when you want to smell fresh air and head to the mountains.
Air India Express has direct flight services from Al Ain to Kozhikode and also via Ras Al Khaimah.
