Ninety years ago this very day, armed with a pair of goggles and a slide rule, a young JRD Tata took off from Karachi to Mumbai in a single-engine Puss Moth, carrying 25 kg of airmail. His first-ever commercial flight on October 15, 1932, laid the foundation for the launch of India’s prestigious carrier – Air India and heralded the beginning of an era of aviation for the nation.

‘JRD Tata fondly addressed ‘Jeh’, fell in love with flying at the age of 15 and took India to the skies with him thirteen years later. In 1962, he recreated the first flight to commemorate its 30th anniversary and in 1982, he took to the skies to celebrate its golden jubilee.
