Flying with an infant: Things that you need to know

With some early planning and preparation, travelling with your baby can be made easier than you think. Our trained and experienced cabin crew will be there, ready to help you at every step of the journey.
Here are some simple tips that can help you reach your destination with minimal stress!

First, one needs to understand the rules for flying with an infant. An infant is one who is below 2 years of age on the day of departure. Your baby must be at least 14 days old to board the flight and must be accompanied by an adult.

When booking flights for travel with an infant, it is better to call the airline reservation desk for booking rather than booking online, so that you can give and get all of the information you need.

The booking procedure for infants is the same as that for adults. An infant must be booked with an accompanying adult. However, there is no need to book a seat for an infant. If you want to add a newborn to an existing booking, this can be done through the call centre or our city/airport offices.
Infants are entitled to 10 kg of free baggage. There will be no additional charges for baby strollers & prams. Air India Express allows accompanying guests to carry infant feed for consumption and carrying baskets (provided an infant is carried) in addition to the permitted hand baggage.

When travelling with a baby, the first rule is to get to the airport early. Take extra care to keep your baby well hydrated. If you need any help after boarding the flight, feel free to talk to the cabin crew. They will be happy to assist you.
