Baggage rules change from time to time and also depend upon the destination and season of travel. On the face of it, baggage rules may look complicated. Look closer! They are, in fact, much simpler and flexible.

Let’s take a quick look at these rules here so that we are not confronted with unexpected situations at the airport.

Cabin baggage

Cabin baggage or hand baggage should not exceed 7 kg including duty free items. The dimensions of the cabin baggage should be 20″ x 14″ x 9″ (inch).

In addition to the 7 Kg hand baggage, each passenger shall be permitted an additional laptop carried in a laptop bag.

Contours are available at all airports to check the dimensions of your carry-on baggage. In case your carry-on baggage exceeds the specifications, you will be requested to check-in your bag.

Checked baggage

Air India Express offers free baggage allowance (FBA) on selected destinations based on seasonal trends. FBA is subject to change from time to time.

However, the maximum weight permissible for a single piece of Check-in baggage is 32 kgs. This rule is applicable to the entire Air India Express network.

Also, the total combined dimensions (length + breadth + height) of both pieces should not exceed 273cm (107 inches). The linear dimension of each piece should not exceed 62 inches.

Infants are entitled to 10 kgs of free baggage, including 7 kg hand baggage if any.

Checked-in baggage in excess of free allowance is subject to excess baggage charges and space availability on the aircraft. Therefore, if you want to carry more, we recommend that you pre-book additional baggage.

Pre-Book Excess Baggage

Excess baggage service can be booked online on www.airindiaexpress.in/en/excess-baggage and is available in slabs of 5 kgs and 10 kgs. You can buy excess baggage while booking your ticket or thereafter through the ‘manage my booking’ option and carry more than your free baggage allowance. This will give you a hassle-free experience at the airport.
