Air India Express turns 17!!

It’s Our Birthday and We Can’t Keep Calm

On April 29, 2005, three flights took off simultaneously to Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, heralding the birth of India’s first international budget carrier – Air India Express. This was the beginning of a long journey that opened up the skies for the common man. The mission was to provide convenient connectivity to short/medium haul international routes in the Gulf and South East Asia at affordable fares.

Today, Air India Express enjoys a 17.4% market share in India – International travel market and is a market leader in the LCC segment to the Gulf/Middle East. The Airline flies across 19 Indian cities and 14 international destinations.

Our focus has always been on offering quality service, as well as comfortable & convenient travel for guests. We connect many smaller Indian towns directly to the Gulf and South-East Asia regions with a fleet of 24 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Just four months into 2022, the Airline won the coveted ‘Covid-19 Business Continuity award’ at Wings India 2022 and has been named one of the ‘Best Organizations for Women 2022’ by the Economic Times.

Air India Express is also India’s first airline to introduce robotic technology to disinfect and clean aircraft interiors. A UV Robotic device fitted with UV Disinfection Lamping system was engaged by the Airline on January 7, 2021, at Delhi airport to disinfect its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Amid the pandemic-induced crisis, the Airline introduced cargo-in-cabin, an innovation that enabled the company to optimize capacity utilization and help farmers & exporters tide over the supply chain crisis.

Air India Express was an active participant in the Vande Bharat Mission and Operation Ganga, helping fellow citizens amidst crisis.

Looking back, it feels amazing to see how far we have come. Here’s to many more flights and happy memories. A big thank you to everyone who stood by us all these years.
