Air India Express, India’s first international budget carrier expands its wings to Coimbatore Airport in Tamil Nadu, introducing non-stop connectivity to Singapore and Delhi. The service to Singapore was inaugurated at a function held at Coimbatore Airport on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Present on the occasion were Mrs Vanitha Mohan, President, Chamber of Commerce, Dr A. Sakthivel, Chairman, KONGU Global Forum, Mr. V. Sundaram, President CODDISSA, Mr S. Narayanan, Chairman, CII, Coimbatore Zone, the Airport Director Mr R. Mahalingam and Regional Director, Southern Region Mr M.V.Joshi and other senior dignitaries. Lighting of the traditional lamp and cutting of a cake marked the inaugural of flight IX 686. Rosebuds were given to all passengers and the counters were lit up and decorated, adding to the festive mood.
Inaugural flight, IX 686 departed at its scheduled departure time of 11.15 pm, on its maiden flight to Singapore. The flight will arrive in Singapore the next day at 06.15 am (local time). The inaugural flight was treated to a water cannon salute. The crew onboard the inaugural flight included Captain Kapil Gupta and Captain Mohinder Pal Singh Gill, along with cabin crew Jyoti Sharma, Shefali Chapre, Hema and Neha Thakur.
Earlier this day, the first incoming flight IX 165, from Delhi, landed at Coimbatore airport at 10.00 pm. Mr. K.Shyam Sundar, CEO, Air India Express and senior officials of the airline also came to Coimbatore on the inaugural flight from Delhi.
The flights from Coimbatore to Singapore will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with departure at 11.15 pm and arrival in Singapore at 0615 am (Local Time). In the return direction, the flight IX 685 will depart Singapore at 10.40 am (Local Time) and arrive in Coimbatore at 12.30 pm. Singapore – Coimbatore services will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. With this service, Air India Express became the first Indian carrier to offer non-stop connectivity from Coimbatore to South East Asia.
With the introduction of these flights, Air India Express service between Tamil Nadu and Singapore has become 21 flights per week. Singapore will continue to be connected to Chennai and Trichy by daily non-stop flights and Madurai will continue to be connected four days a week. These services provide convenient onward connections to Air India’s non-stop flights from Delhi to New York, Newark, San Francisco, Chicago, Tokyo, Hong Kong and onward to Osaka and Seoul. Likewise, incoming passengers on Air India’s flights from these four cities in the USA can avail convenient onward connections to Coimbatore.
The nonstop service from Coimbatore to Delhi will be on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flight IX 166 will depart Coimbatore at 02.05 pm and arrive in Delhi at 05.05 pm. In the return direction, flight IX 165 will depart Delhi at 07.00 pm and arrive in Coimbatore at 10.00 pm. This flight will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
