The first-ever international flight has landed at Surat Airport on 16th February 2019, with Air India Express flight IX 172 from Sharjah touching down with 75 passengers. The first flight on Surat- Sharjah Sector, IX 171 departed Surat Airport with 186 passengers. The senior management team of Air India Express were at the airport to see off the passengers.

Air India Express aircraft, Boeing 737-800 NG based in Sharjah is operating the non-stop Sharjah-Surat service. Captain Ashish Gangurde and Captain Jeshmin Mistry operated the maiden flight with cabin crew Ms Purnima Kantharia, Ms Manasvi Dadia, Ms.Megha Kirtania and Mr Dhruv Raghav. Air India Express will operate four services per week on this sector, in the upcoming summer schedule, which will be in operation from April 1, 2019. In the Summer Schedule, Sharjah -Surat services will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and Surat – Sharjah services will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Surat- Sharjah is the 47th non-stop direct connection of Air India Express between destinations in India and the Gulf Region. The Airline’s network in the Middle East extends to 13 cities.
