Further to the twenty-seven Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, we would like to provide further update on the same.

As on date, 152 injured passengers have been discharged from various hospitals after obtaining their complete fitness. As on date, all the passengers are out of the ICU and everybody is stable. A few may need longer hospitalization, but our Angels are working round the clock to support them.

Notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions, officials of Air India, Air India Express and our Angels are in direct touch with each and every passenger and their family members and all required assistance and help is being given at all times by them. Our prayers continue to be with the family of the deceased passengers, survivors, their families and loved ones.

We would further like to update that majority of the baggage have been delivered to the passengers as well as to the family members of the injured and the deceased passengers.

Money disbursement as a part of the Interim Relief announced by the airline, is also being carried out simultaneously.

We would like to inform that now we will be issuing the Press Release only as and when required, based on any new updates that we need to share with the passengers, since we are already in contact with all the passengers and the families directly.

As on date, 147 injured passengers have been discharged from various hospitals after obtaining complete fitness. Our prayers continue to be with the family of the deceased passengers, survivors, their families and loved ones.Death certificates in respect of the majority of the deceased passengers have been already issued with the coordination of Air India Express and Air India officials as well as ERP & Angels of Air India.

We would like to update that majority of the baggage have been delivered to the passengers as well as to the family members of the injured and the deceased passengers.

Money disbursement as a part of the interim compensation announced by the airline, is also being carried out simultaneously.

The adverse weather conditions not withstanding, officials of Air India and Air India Express and Angels of Air India as well as Emergency Response Volunteers, are round the clock available to render all possible support to the family members of the passengers who are admitted in various hospitals. All possible logistical support to the family members of the injured as well as the deceased passengers are being continuously catered to with the support of the Angels of Air India.

As on date, 144 injured passengers have been discharged from various hospitals after obtaining their complete fitness and the total fatalities as on date is 21. Our prayers continue to be with the family of the deceased passengers, survivors, their families and loved ones.

We would like to update that large number of baggage have been delivered to the passengers as well as to the family members of the injured and the deceased passengers.

We would like to update that the third lot of baggage have been delivered to the passengers as well as to the family members of the injured as well as the deceased passengers. We would also like to further update that retrieval of baggage of the passengers are continuing irrespective of the inclement weather with the help of all the respective agencies.

The Emergency Response Team of Air India, Air India Express and Air India Officials as well as Angels of Air India are working round the clock to support the injured passengers who are admitted in various hospitals to cater to the requirements of the injured passengers as well as their family, in all possible way. The Emergency Response team and the Angels are taking all precautions to comply with the Health authorities using the required PPE and ensuring that everyone is safe.

As on date, 110 injured passengers have been discharged from various hospitals after obtaining their complete fitness and the total fatalities is 19 as on date. Our prayers continue to be with the family of the deceased passengers, survivors, their families and loved ones.

Further to the eighteen Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, we would like to provide further update on the same.

As already informed in our Press Release No.5 of 08th August 2020, the Chief of Corporate Communications, Air India Express Ltd. has vide his Notification in the Newspaper of date, has reiterated their earnestness in providing immediate relief to the passengers as an interim compensation, the details of which are reproduced once again:-

  • 10,00,000/- to the next kin of the deceased passengers of the age of 12 years and above.
  • Rs 500000/ to the next of kin of deceased passengers who were less than 12 years of age.
  • 200,000/- to critically/grievously injured passengers.
  • 50,000/- to the passengers who have suffered other injuries.

The aforesaid payments will be made without prejudice against execution of appropriate documentation and will be adjusted against the final compensation payable.

Air India Express shall directly contact the injured passengers / next of kin of the deceased passengers whose contact details are available with the Airline in order to ensure the disbursement at the earliest. The disbursement to the injured passengers shall be made first. In case they do not hear from the Airline by 20th August 2020, they may please contact the Airline on 8590975761 or 8590983213. The next of kin of the deceased passengers will be contacted shortly thereafter.

The Emergency Response Team of Air India and Air India Express as well as the Angels of Air India are working along with Kenyon International to retrieve all the baggages of the passengers.  There were lot of baggages to be retrieved and transferred to the Arrival Hall.  The equipment and manpower for cutting the aircraft panels to retrieve baggages have also commenced.  The total number of baggage retrieved and transferred to the Arrival Hall is 416 pieces. We will keep providing the regular updates once they are ready to be delivered to the survivors and family members.

We will ensure that all the baggage retrieved is handed over to the passengers and family in due course, after cleaning and sanitisation process.

Maharashtra State Government accorded state funeral to Late Capt. Deepak Vasant Sathe with full honours. Wreath-laying ceremony was conducted by Indian Air Force (IAF). The funeral was attended by the officials of Air India Express, State Minister as well as Indian Air Force officials and other dignitaries. Later, the mortal remains were taken to the crematorium along with family and friends.

We are with the family of the Captain in their moment of grief and are here to support the family.

The Emergency Response Team of Air India and Air India Express have contracted the services of an international agency who is in the business of providing emergency and support services in the event of a disaster. This Agency is specialised in recovery of the baggage, in case of a major accident and their expertise lies in identification of the baggage with their specialised services through advanced technology.

The Contract Service Provider, M/s. Kenyon International would carry out the functions of restoration of personal effects with the help of Angels of Air India. Personal effects are items belonging to crew and passengers on board an aircraft involved in an aircraft accident.

We will keep you updated on the progress once the team arrives in Calicut tonight.

Further to the seven Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, we would like to provide an update on the same.

The mortal remains of the Late Commander Capt. Deepak Vasant Sathe and the family of the deceased Captain were duly escorted by the Angels of Air India and the Emergency Response Team from Calicut to Cochin International Airport. The Chief of Operations and Chief of Flight Safety of Air india Express also accompanied the team. The mortal remains were honorably received today i.e. 09th August 2020 at Mumbai International Airport by the officials of Air India and Air India Express who were present to receive the family of the deceased captain along with the mortal remains of the Captain.

A Prayer Meeting was arranged at Air India premises which was attended by the Emergency Response Director, the Regional Director of Western Region and Senior Management of Air India as well as Air India Express. Many pilots, cabin crew and other personnel also joined the Prayer Meeting.

Investigation for the Accident is continuing and will take some time before it is completed.

Further to the six Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, we would like to reiterate the information with regard to the TEC.

The Telephone Enquiry Centre (TEC) was activated under the instruction of Emergency Response Director on the 07th August 2020 to handle calls related to the accident. A dedicated Toll free number 1800 22 2271 was assigned and relayed through the initial Press Release to inform all concerned about the same.

Dedicated and appropriately trained personnel were deployed in Telephone Enquiry Centre to handle calls related to the emergency. Angels of Air India are supporting the TEC all through the day on 24X7 basis under the guidance of TEC Team Leaders.

 Further to the five Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, Air India Express regrets to confirm that its flight IX-1344 from DXB to CCJ was involved in an accident on the 7th August 2020 at Calicut.

The Emergency Response Team Members and Angels of Air India with Air India Express team are all positioned in Calicut to render necessary help and assistance to the injured passengers who are kept in different hospitals of Calicut. As regards the deceased passengers, the mortal remains have been handed over to the families with their consent.

This is to place on record that the mortal remains of the First Officer Capt. Akhilesh Kumar was taken to his home town Mathura through surface transport from Delhi with due honours on 09th August 2020 early morning. The mortal remains were duly cremated with attendance from all family members as well as with the officials of Air India and Air India Express present to mark respect to the departed soul at Mathura, his hometown.

As regards the Commander Capt. Deepak Vasant Sathe, the mortal remains have already been taken to the Cochin International Airport today i.e. 09th August 2020 and will arrive into Mumbai today.

AAIB has initiated the investigation into the accident with the support of Flight Safety Officials.

Further to the four Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, Air India Express regrets to confirm that its flight IX-1344 from DXB to CCJ was involved in an accident on the 7th August 2020 at Calicut.

The airline is adequately insured and will pay compensation in accordance with applicable law at the appropriate juncture.

To provide immediate relief, as an interim compensation AI India Express will give:

Rs.10,00,000/- to the next kin of the deceased passenger 12 years and above, Rs 500000/ to the passengers below the age of 12 years, Rs.200,000/- to critical injured passenger and
Rs.50,000/- to the passenger who are injured in the incident.

Air India Express has established Passenger Information Center and a Toll free number had been made available for family or friends of those who may have been on board flights IX-1344. The Toll free number is 1800222271. For those calling from outside, please call international country code.

Further to the three Press Releases with regard to AIR INDIA EXPRESS LTD accident of IX-1344, B-737 from DXB to CCJ on 7th of August, 2020 at Calicut, our thoughts and prayers are with all the passengers and crew and their families at this time of grief. We would like to update that as of now the number of fatalities has increased to 18.

Whilst on the subject, we would like to update that the Commander of the ill fated aircraft IX-1344 Capt. Deepak Vasant Sathe was an experienced Boeing 737-800 aircraft pilot and had earlier also flown the Airbus A-310. He had also won the sword of honour at the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad and was an accomplished fighter pilot before becoming a commercial pilot.

The family of the deceased Commander Capt. Deepak Vasant Sathe has been duly escorted by the Angels of Air India and the Emergency Response Team from Mumbai to Calicut. The family was escorted to the hospital where the mortal remains of the Captain were kept for post mortem. As regards the family of the deceased co-pilot Capt. Akhilesh Kumar, they have already been escorted from Delhi to Calicut by Air India Express officials and Angels of Air India.

Accident Details – AIXL Flight IX-1344-VT-AXH (B737)

Air India Express flight IX 1344 operated by B737 aircraft from Dubai to Calicut overshot runway at Kozhikode at 1941 Hrs. tonight. No fire reported at the time of landing.
There are 174 passengers, 10 infants, 2 Pilots and 4 Cabin Crew on board the aircraft.
As per the initial reports rescue operations are on and passengers are being taken to hospital for medical care.
