Air India Express Expanding The Wings By Kick-starting Bahrain – Kannur Service

Air India Express, India’s first International budget airline, kick-starts the all-new Bahrain – Kannur Service.  The inaugural ceremony was on April 1st, 2019. This service will be available on Mondays and Saturdays.



On Mondays, flight IX 789 will depart Kannur at 8.10 AM to arrive in Bahrain at 10.10 AM. On the return sector, the Bahrain -Kannur flight IX 789/790 will fly to Kannur via Kuwait with departure Bahrain at 11.10 AM and arrival in Kannur at 8.10 PM. On Saturdays, flight IX 789 will depart Kannur at 7.10 AM to arrive in Bahrain at 9.10 AM and on the return sector, the flight will depart Bahrain at 10.10 AM to reach Kannur at 7.10 PM via Kuwait. The inaugural flight IX 789 from Kannur landed Bahrain at 1106 LT with 113 passengers.


The senior management team of Air India and other dignitaries including H.E. Mr. Alok Kumar Sinha, Ambassador of India to Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Ayman Abdulhameed Zainal, Chief Commercial Officer, Bahrain Airport Company, Mr. Michael Hohenberger, Chief Airport Operations Officer, Bahrain Airport Company, Mr. Zaeem Gama, Divisional Chief Executive Office, Kanoo Travel (our GSAs in Bahrain), Senior Executives from Civil Aviation Affairs, Bahrain Airport Services (Ground Handling Agent), Immigrations, Customs, Ministry of Interior, Leading Travel Agents, Presidents of Kerala Samajam & Kannur Associations, etc. were at the airport to welcome the inaugural flight. Captain Mahender Bondugula and Captain Kesha Arun operated the maiden flight with cabin crew Ms Susmitha Meppatt, Ms Anima Athiyadath, Ms Vaishali Singh and Mr Deepak Verma. The Operating Crew of the Air India Express flight also joined the event which started with the welcome speech by Mr Saket Saran, Country Manager, Air India & Air India Express and facilitation speech by H.E. Ambassador of India, Mr Alok Kumar Sinha. This was followed by the traditional Cake Cutting and serving of refreshments to the invitees.



The departing passengers were delighted on being met at the traditionally decorated Check-in Counters by Airport Team and greeted with rosebuds at Boarding Gate. Mr Subeer Puzhayaruvath, Member NRI (K) C, Govt. of Kerala, was the first passenger to check-in the flight. The event was well organized by M/S. Bahrain Airport Company with the support of Bahrain Airport Services.

The first flight with almost full load departed Bahrain at 1148 LT with 168 passengers (including 89 passengers from Bahrain).
